VALLEYS EDUCATION EXPERIMENT WINS DRAMATIC RISE IN LEARNERS
There is a dramatic
rise in the number of learners from under-represented groups entering higher
education as a result of a unique experiment in
the Valleys of
South East Wales.
By offering courses in local, familiar venues to suit the needs of people
living in the towns and villages hit by the loss of mining and steel industries,
the
Community University of the Valleys-East (CUV-East) is playing a key role in
regeneration and social renewal.
A fourfold increase in the number of students across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Torfaen in just four years demonstrates that people are grasping new opportunities to help them during a period of rapid change in their communities.
