Question: What will I be studying?

You will be studying the subject of your choice and the modules normally last 12 weeks. On successful completion of the module you have achieved credits which can be built up to a full Certificate of Higher Education.

Question: What qualifications do I need to start?

You don't need any qualifications! Many of our students left school without qualifications.

Question: What sort of assessments are involved?

The assessment can take the form of essays, coursework/portfolio and sometimes exams.

Question: How much will a course cost?

Courses (modules) are FREE for people on benefits and anyone living in a Communities First area and, for those on a low income, a substantial fee reduction is available. Each 10 credit module costs £75* for those not eligible for fee waiver/reduction.

Question: What resources will I need to provide?

The only things you need to provide are your time and the will to learn.

Question: What support and resources will be available to me?

The Learning resources available to you include study support, electronic resources and individual advice.

Question: How can I find out about A Welsh Assembly grant ?

We have the staff that will help you fill in the form that accompanies the 'Assembly Learning Grant'. Contact your development officer for more details.

Question: Where can I take the course?

The courses are available within the Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly areas. To see a list of venues click here.

Question: I have been out of education for a long time, will I be able to do it, am I too old ?

You are never too old to learn! Many of the staff at CUV East were 'mature' students and they will be there to support you. Our youngest student is 19 and the oldest 84.

Question: Is everyone else as nervous about starting as I am ?

Absolutely! But the hardest step will be behind you. In the sense that you taken the first step to achieving your goal.
